I still have the first tape I ever made with a boombox and a plastic microphone. It’s sixty minutes of jumpy pause-button edits, both sides crammed to the hiss-filled gills with jokes, weird ramblings, experiments in sound, and offhanded a cappella mutations of Kraftwerk and early rap tunes. I was nine. From there the music obsession kept on going, coasting through my teenage skatepunk years, down loose, creaky staircases into damp Midwestern indie basement scenes, and eventually resurfacing in Brooklyn. Now, if I’m not busy DJing or writing music for films, I’m probably trying to invent a cocktail named after one of my favorite records.
If you’d like to get in touch via email about anything, I can be reached at shakenandheard[at]gmail.com. My name is Dave.
